Congratulations to Patrick Linehan for being nationally recognized for his contribution to Squash NL and dedication to our squash community at the recent Squash Canada AGM.
Patrick Linehan has actively volunteered with Squash in Newfoundland and Labrador for 10+ years, becoming very active with organized squash in 2014, when he took on the rejuvenation of the Aquarena Squash Club’s junior program. Under his leadership and direct coaching, the program went from a handful of juniors taking lessons once per week to 20 + players in a teen program with a much more active program of training and competition in tournaments. The Club itself also resumed hosting tournaments with other clubs.
At the senior level beginning in 2015 Patrick effectively doubled the league size and actively assisted in the overall management of the league. Patrick could be found on the referee stand and organizing player substitutions and other referees every Monday from 6pm-9:30pm for the Fall and Winter seasons from September 2015-March 2020.
In honor of his mother, who passed away from Alzheimer’s complications, Patrick spearheaded the Roseanne Linehan Memorial Tournament in support of Alzheimer’s. This tournament featured both competitive and a very popular Recreational division and would feature 60 entries and over $1000 being donated to Alzheimer’s each of the three years it was hosted pre Covid. The tournament is planned to resume in the fall of 2021 pending the Pandemic.
Patrick also volunteered three years on the Board of Squash NL where he spent a year as an At Large Director and then assumed an Executive position as Treasurer during a crucial period as Squash NL rebooted into a much more active organization. He remains active and involved with his Club and Squash NL and willing to volunteer for various activities as needed.
